Ever since we made British Columbia and the Slocan Valley our home in 1989, we have had the great pleasure of welcoming international guests to our lakeside home in the quaint little village of New Denver. Sharing the beauty of our valley with its surrounding mountains and pristine lakes has always given us tremendous joy.

Namibia, a most fascinating country with stunning desert landscapes, rugged canyons, ancient rock formations and an abundance of exotic wildlife.  Vast horizons, clear unpolluted skies, and a sparse population give the visitor a feeling of limitless freedom. On our journey through the country, we dine at world-class restaurants, stay in excellent lodgings and travel in our 10-seater van. Where the pavement ends, the adventure begins!

Our Namibia visit includes a drive through the vast Kalahari, a day hike along the Fish River Canyon, and an ascent of the gigantic sand dunes at Sossusvlei. We stop at the seaside town of Swakopmund on the Skeleton Coast, and explore the fascinating rock formations and Bushman rock art in Twyfelfontain, where we also view and photograph the desert wildlife. Our drive continues into Kaokoland, the last frontier of true wilderness and the realm of the nomadic Himba people.

The highlight of the seventeen days is Etosha National Park, one of Africa's great wildlife sanctuaries. Dominated by its enormous shimmering salt pan, Etosha is an area of wild savannah and home to a fantastic array of animals. Our two-day safari into the huge park is a once in a lifetime experience, completing our memorable holiday.

This unforgettable 18-day adventure lets you experience a remarkable country of amazing contrasts. The tour starts in Port Elizabeth. Our first event is a safari through a private game reserve and the vast wilderness of Addo Elephant Park. Have your camera ready for close-ups of roaming elephants, giraffes, lions, antelopes and rhinos. The Garden Route along the Indian Ocean comes next. Famous for tropical forests, exotic birds and plants, reed-banked rivers and pristine beaches, it offers fantastic hiking opportunities. Once we leave the coast at Mossel Bay, our route climbs over Robinson Pass and winds down into the land of the ostrich.

Called the Klein Karoo, its magnificent landscapes feature towering cliffs and clear streams. The abundance of trees and other indigenous vegetation makes it one of South Africa's most diverse regions. Our journey then takes us through a picturesque countryside dotted with vineyards, Cape Dutch homes, and historical villages such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Here, top chefs create fine international cuisine for us to sample along with splendid local wines. We stay in first class and authentic guest houses and lodges.

Words cannot adequately describe the scenic beauty that awaits us at the Cape of Good Hope. It's here that the African continent dramatically drops into the sea. Our last leg leads into Cape Town. From spectacular Chapman's Peak Drive - it hugs a near vertical mountain face - we have breathtaking views of the sandy bays below. The ascent of famous Table Mountain at sunrise and a day exploring Cape Town, one of the world's most beautiful cities, are a fitting finale for our enjoyable  journey.

Mallorca

Mallorca, Spain

PLEASE INQUIRY AT WWW.MAGICPLACES.CA

The island of Mallorca, located in the Mediterranean southeast of mainland Spain, is not only known as the world’s Mecca for road cyclists. With its diverse and stunning landscapes, it also offers a vast network of beautiful and quiet walking and hiking trails. These trails lead through a dramatic range of mountains with cliff-hugging villages, past ancient castles and prehistoric ruins, and to hidden coves and crystal blue waters.

After guiding bicycle tours on Mallorca for over a decade, we have become very familiar with the island and now take you to our favorite places. Most of these places can only be accessed by foot and at a much slower pace.  The best time for hiking on Mallorca is during the spring when the temperatures are slightly cooler and when an abundance of flowers and birdlife fill the landscape. Although the island has become very popular in recent years, many hiking routes that we choose are hidden away, and we only have to share the breathtaking views with the mountain goats or the predators that soar high above!

The charming villages, rich with cultural and architectural heritage, add to the European experience. Our thoroughly selected accommodations include wonderful and intimate rural hotels and fincas (authentic farm houses), and our choice of restaurants, specializing in traditional local cuisine, complete our taste of the fine Mallorcan lifestyle.

In 2019, we will be spending two months on Mallorca, giving our clients the opportunity to join us and choose their activities freely within that time frame.

We welcome you to our 17-day trip around one of the world’s most scenically diverse islands. With our experience of travelling in New Zealand for more than 35 years, we take you where coach tours cannot, and we share with you a few little secrets that we have discovered off the beaten track during our extensive travels!

Featuring the turquoise-blue southern lakes like Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki, the snow-capped mountains and glaciers of the Southern Alps, the lush and misty West Coast forest, and the golden sand beaches along a magnificent coastline, we will make sure that you see the best New Zealand has to offer!

One of the many highlights of our journey is an overnight trip on a privately chartered boat into Fiordlands’ remote isolation of Doubtful Sound. We also explore some of the South Island’s walking and hiking trails and will be rewarded by seeing the country’s outstanding natural beauty. A full day of sea kayaking has us paddle with seals and in the company with exotic sea birds to secluded sandy beaches and tiny off shore islands of Abel Tasman National Park.

Throughout our trip, we take advantage of the long summer days and warm, golden light that gives us the opportunity to capture stunning imagery and priceless memories. Our selection of fine accommodation includes intimate and authentic lodges where we wake up to a spectacular alpine vista or a scenic freshwater lake.

See you in New Zealand. Kia Ora!

Called the America's playground, the southwest of the United States lures its visitors with an overwhelming scenery and majestic beauty. Ranging from towering monoliths of red sandstone to the high desert plateaus, these powerful landscapes hold an amazing array of geological treasures.

Our trip starts in Las Vegas. After two nights in this buzzing city, we are on our way to leisurely hike through some of the world’s most stunning canyons. Our first stop is Zion National Park where we find hanging gardens and powerful waterfalls. After one full day at Zion, we travel to the breathtaking crimson rock pillars of Bryce Canyon. Here we start the days early to watch the sun rise over the awe-inspiring rock formations that have stood tall for over millions of years.

Further highlights along our way include a side trip into the remote slot canyons of the Burr Trail, Capitol Reef, the drive along the Fremont River Valley ... and a stop for the best homemade cinnamon buns where least expected!

Once we reach Moab, we take two full days to explore this Mecca for the outdoor enthusiast. Whether rafting down the Colorado River, hot air ballooning over the geological wonders, or biking the famous Slick Rocks, the choice is yours!

But we keep the best for last! We will experience the immense vastness and beauty of the Grand Canyon by hiking this world wonder and learning its fascinating natural and cultural history from a local guide.

Enjoy all of these geological treasures while staying in some of the historic national park lodges and comfortable 'bed-and-breakfasts' that we have found over the years. And let us prove that the American cuisine has more to offer than its reputation suggests.
